It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

I haven't posted a It's Monday! post since June, and I just realized that's probably because I've only read four books since. I've been going on about a reading slump but looking at it now, I guess it really was true!
I'd like to go to my go to excuse: my sister's kids. Not because they required my attention but because they are really loud and distracting (have I mentioned I work from home?). By some miracle though I didn't spend too much time with my headphones this year though, progress.

Twenty-Four Hours by Carolyn Anthony - Excerpt + Giveaway

Twenty-Four Hours
Carolyn Anthony
(A Shattered Boundaries Novel)
Publication date: July 3rd 2017
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance
The second chance that might never happen…
Eve Luccio waited years for her first love, but somehow their lives were never quite in sync. Now, at thirty-six, her only focus is completing the final year of her PhD. The last thing on her mind is the honor-driven former Navy SEAL who stole her heart as a teen and left her unable to love any other man since.
When Jake Theron walks back into Eve’s life, his presence shatters her walls of self preservation. He unleashes a dark sexuality that Eve never imagined she would experience, much less come to crave. All he wants from her is a day of her trust—twenty-four uninterrupted hours before she crosses the country for her Post Doctorate position in New York. But letting down her guard for even twenty-four hours with Jake might just destroy her.
For Jake Theron, Eve was always “the one that got away,” except even after two decades, she’s still under his skin. When Eve finally agrees to see him, Jake vows he won’t let her slip through his fingers again.
But nobody knows better than Jake what a vicious bitch fate can be. When his life gets in the way, he realizes he may have to let Eve go once again—this time for her own good.
All he has left are the next twenty-four hours. One day and night in a seaside hotel, after which he has no choice but to let her walk out of his life with no guarantee he’ll ever see her again. The problem is, now that he’s had a real taste of the woman who should have been his twenty years ago, he’s not sure he’ll have the strength to let her go.

Song(s) of the Moment {7/25 & 8/8}

Songs of the Moment is a bi-monthly feature I started where I pick a song that represents the week, day or month; that fits with a moment I recently had. Or that's been on repeat.

I missed my last Song post mainly because I wasn't in the mood to sit and write, but of course I did have songs to share. Which I would have shared last week but for unknown reasons I didn't. So I'm going to share them now but first this week's song.

Summer Reading Challenge Final Update

I call it the "final' update but it's actually the first if you don't count the random mentions I made in other posts.
I have to say I'm more than a bit discouraged. My reading habits just suck.

This has been a hard(-ish) year for me, I know it can be worse so totally counting my blessings there (actually I tried counting all the good and had a better time counting all the bad things I don't have), and I've just... I don't even know!
You wanna know what I've been doing instead of reading? Staring at the wall! Just staring off daydreaming. Honestly, I've always been a daydream all day type so not something to overthink and I can't say it's gotten worse. But lately it's been: read a few pages, stare off into space, read a paragraph, off again.

Perspective in Action by David Chelsea - Book Review

Perspective in Action: Creative Exercises for Depicting Spatial Representation from the Renaissance to the Digital AgePerspective in Action: Creative Exercises for Depicting Spatial Representation from the Renaissance to the Digital Age by David Chelsea
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Using the graphic novel format, Perspective in Action features 33easy-to-follow demonstrations to teach the major discoveries in perspective. Perspective is a fundamental element in the development of art and for understanding spatial relationships, but it is an underserved topic in the world of art instruction. Author and artist David Chelsea takes readers through the major perspective-related developments in history, teaching them how to re-create these same experiments by leading artists in all fields (including drawing, painting, and sculpture). Covering a wide-range of mediums (pen and ink, paint, chalk, digital art, woodwork, and more), Perspective in Action gives readers a more hands-on approach to perspective, as opposed to the usual theoretical presentations found in other books."

Published: August 1, 2017 by Feiwel & Friends

Olivia Grace Clarisse Mignonette Harrison is turning thirteen. Even better, she’s finally starting to get the hang of this princess thing. Just in time, too, since her half-sister, Princess Mia Thermopolis, is expected to give birth to twins any day now!

It’s pretty much the worst time possible for a school field trip, but everyone is insisting that Olivia must attend the Royal School Winter Games. Between Grandmère chaperoning, Olivia’s snobby cousin Luisa complaining about her relationship woes, and everyone insisting that Olivia has a crush on Prince Khalil (even though she isn’t sure that he even wants to be friends anymore!), things are quickly turning into a royal mess!

The third book in the middle-grade Princess Diaries spin-off series, written and illustrated by New York Times-bestselling author Meg Cabot.
